Miami is coming off a tough loss last week against Pittsburgh. The Bengals have had a tough time this season and are struggling to keep any momentum they may have during games. Miami likes to control the clock on the road and pound the ball on the ground. Cincy averages 18 points at home this season and the Miami defense should give the struggling Palmer even more trouble. CINCINNATI is 9-1 UNDER (+7.9 Units) vs. mistake free teams - 42 or less penalty yards per game over the last 3 seasons.
The average score was CINCINNATI 14.4, OPPONENT 19.3 & Cincy is 0-16 (-9.6 ppg) OU since November 2006 when they are off a game in which they had at least 30 minutes of possession time, at least 20 first downs and punted fewer than six times... 0-12 OU after any game in which they had more than 22 first downs, staying under by an average of 11.1 ppg. Detroit has been in nearly every game this season and has covered all but one game this season. Washington is 0-1 this season on 4-11-1 in their last 16 on turf. Detroit is getting Stafford back and should be able to exploit the Washington d-backs as the Skins have given up 275 yards passing in their last 3. The home team is 7-2-1 in the last 10 and I like the Lions to battle hard here and get their long overdue 2nd win of the season.

The Canadians outscored the Isles on Wed. night even while the Isles scored 2 on the PP. New York has scored power play goals in all but one game so far this season and they are scoring at a 28% rate on the PP. Montreal has scored just 2 PP goals in 32 chances so far this season. While Price has been hot this season the offense in front of him has been lacking and the Habs depends on solid play defensively in order to win games. NY has allowed 1 PK goal in the last 19 chances and have proven to be a more disciplined team than years past. The home crowd should be enough to give them the edge in this revenge match from two nights ago. There are multiple trends pointing to both sides but the Isles at home jumped out at me.

Dallas @ Florida
Dallas is 4-1 on the season and coming off of their only loss to Tampa Bay. In their 5 games however they have averaged letting up 39 shots on goal on average. Tampa put 44 shots on goal to only 19 for the Stars. Florida in my opinion may be the best 2-2 team in the NHL. Coming off of 2 back to back shutouts Vokoun will be looking for a another solid performance from his teammates in front of him. Florida has only taken 8 penalties that lead to opponent power plays and have killed all so far. Discipline and hard work has the Florida squad believing in themselves and me believing in them at home in this spot as well.

Buffalo @ Atlanta
Buffalo has struggled with one goal games so far this year and have finally had time off to address their issues at hand. Lindy Ruff put the team through the hardest team practice ever on Monday in hope to get the troops back to basics as far as 60 minute play is concerned. Atlanta did well on their recent road trip but continues to let up over 35+ shot against nightly. In their past 2 wins 39 and 40 shots against were allowed and that cannot fly tonight against a much more focused Buffalo team. Mason has also faced more action than expected and this home game after a long west coast trip is the perfect let down spot. Playing the road team tonight.

The NFL has been slightly above average for me and feeling out the teams over the start of this season has proven difficult, but doable. I generally look at current situations, situational trends, and line movements. Public perception is one of the keys to identifying inflated lines and again this week there are several.

Colorado @ New York Islanders
Colorado and New York have both averaged scoring and letting up 3.25 goals a game. That's due to a lot of sub par play from their goaltenders and settling in to the new lines configurations on each team. The Isles have scored at 27% on their PP so far and I look for them to bounce back from a bad loss to the Pens on Friday. At home the Isles have averaged 39 shots a home and tallied an average of 5 goals per game. Colorado had their first 3 games play over and last nights match-up against the Devils being their first under of the season. I look for both teams to get back to their usual ways and light the lamp in this one.

Nashville played last night and received a solid performance from backup goalie Lindback. Lindback is expected to get the consecutive starts tonight at home against St. Louis. A lot of things are present in a home game that aren't there on the road.
St. Louis put 53 shots on Anaheim in a 4-1 win 3 nights ago. I look for the Blues to hit the ground running and take it to Nashville. The Preds may be tired come the 3rd and I like the road team to be the ones who end up 3-0 at this ones end.

Initially I like the KC team and could wrap my head around the line vegas put out. Considering the value that the public puts on a 4-0 team really works hand in hand with the public perception of Indy as well, keeping the line in check. Looking into their defense and the opponents faced and the KC team can limit the big play but will give up the medium gain pass plays. One thing Peyton Manning can do however is confuse the secondary and linebackers and work defense into a bad reaction. Indy has the home field advantage and KC off of a bye could result in a sluggish start against one of the quickest teams in the league. I really think KC's special teams can give them good field position but offensively I doubt they can keep up over the 4 quarter long haul.

These two teams have played each other in their last two preseason games and open the season Thursday in Edmonton. The last meeting was a 1-0 Calgary victory and prior to that a 5-1 Calgary win. The Edmonton Oilers have gone 7-2 games playing under the total in the last 9 games at home. I think both will play their defense systems and play reasonable tight in the first regular season game. The fact that the odds makers put the total at 5.5, is a gift. This inflated line would be 5 in a month and seeing that difference is the advantage.

Colorado wasn't impressing anyone in the preseason either but I feel the home ice really plays a role in this game. I like the under here too but prefer to put my money on the home underdog. Perfect spot for a small return on initial investment.

I think you always have to stiffen a defense up when lining up against the New England Patriots. Miami has a hard knock defensive pass rush and will throw multiple looks at Brady, especially in the first half. Allen will have a tough time but has the ability, with help from the secondary, to contain the deep threat. Miami leads the match up in time of possession and will likely have that as a major part of their game plan....to continue to dictate the game with TOP. Brady's high completion percentage will keep the clock ticking in those short throws and screens. Leaning toward the Under play tonight and going for 4-0 on Monday Night Football! Considering a small Under on the first half line of 24.5 as well.

Week 4
Decided to bring this blog back to life since the NHL season is upon us!! I have managed to successfully get through the first month of NFL and managed to make a small profit as well. Today's plays in the NFL are as follows:
